Frequently Asked Questions
1. Do I need a doctor’s referral before making an appointment?
No! Florida is a Direct Access state for physical therapy. This means that you can make an appointment without a doctor’s referral. In Florida, you have 21 days from the first appointment before needing a doctor’s referral to continue care (if you still need care after 21 days).
2. I have Medicare – Can I still make an appointment?
We are not a Medicare provider. Medicare has its own separate rules. Even if you are paying cash, you may not make an appointment at this time for anything that would require physical therapy in an outpatient or in-patient setting. You may make an appointment for wellness visits only. Call to inquire before making an appointment.
3. I am currently in litigation and/or receiving Worker’s Compensation (or plan to be in ligation or plan to receive worker’s compensation) for an injury or condition. Would Synergy Physical Therapy be a good fit for me in my healing process?
Synergy’s focus is on holistic physical therapy and wellness. We are not a traditional physical therapy clinic, and we are not a worker’s compensation provider. We do not participate in the litigation process after an accident or trauma. We suggest a provider with a traditional clinic setting who also accepts insurance and/or who is a worker’s compensation provider. It is thought clients respond best to treatments once the litigation process is complete.
4. Can I have other treatments with Synergy or other practitioners if I plan to receive Bowen Therapy?
No. Bowen is a very gentle, yet profound and powerful bodywork technique that is performed once every 5-10 days (4-6 treatments on average, although sometimes there is resolution after 1-3 treatments). According to the originator and instructors of Bowen, the technique may not be performed with other techniques (other forms of manual therapy, massage, e-stim, chiropractic, acupuncture, etc.). It has been observed that the results “level off” or diminish when other techniques are added either with the same practitioner or with other practitioners.
5. A. Do I have to have an Evaluation visit for SCAR RELEASE? B. Do regular visits include SCAR RELEASE?
A. No, an evaluation is not necessary for scar release only. However, no exercises or treatments will be performed for other areas of concern, and only the scar will be addressed. To address areas of pain, an evaluation visit will need to be booked.
B. Yes, regular evaluations and follow-up treatment visits include scar release if deemed a part of the treatment protocol.
6. Does Synergy Physical Therapy take insurance?
No, not at this time. Upon request, an invoice will be issued for the services received that may be submitted to NON-Medicare insurances only. Synergy Physical Therapy makes no speculations, claims, or guarantees about reimbursement (if any).
7. What should I wear to my appointment?
Comfortable, loose fitting clothes. Jeans are discouraged, but may be worn (or consider bringing a pair of gym shorts with you).
8. Examples of conditions treated:
Back pain
Neck pain
Foot pain
Plantar Fasciitis

9. I just had surgery. Where should I go?
Acute post-surgical repair is recommended for traditional physical therapy clinics. However, the incision / scar can be treated at any time for scar-release ONLY sessions! Once you are independent with your home exercises and discharged from a traditional clinic setting, come on in for any residual pain or limitation you have!
